This is a difficult thing to rate. The temptation is to compare Sonic Producer's online software with professional console software, which would make Sonic Producer look quite limited. Online software, however, is a different beast from console software. It's online nature makes it inherently more limited in the number and complexity of features it can offer. For this reason, it is only fair to compare Sonic Producer to other online beat making software.
In this light, Sonic Producer rates much better. It has many of the music mixing essentials not seen in other online beat making software websites. Sonic Producer's music sequencer consists of sixteen tracks, each with separate volume controls. The BPM (beats per minute) is adjustable, allowing the customer to control the tempo. The sequencer includes an integrated virtual keyboard and drum pad. Although this would seem like a limited feature set compared to console music mixing software, this is more than many of Sonic Producer's online beat making software competitors offer.
Still, experienced users of console software will still find Sonic Producer's meager feature set frustratingly limited. The inability to lay down a vocal track or to utilize VST plug-ins requires the finished, downloaded beat line to be put into another music mixing software program just to complete the song. In that case, it begs the obvious question: if you have to use console software to compete the song, why use Sonic Producer at all?
